A Distributed Antenna System (DAS) is a network of antennas that are connected to a central source and distributed throughout a building or other structure to improve wireless coverage and signal strength. A Bi-Directional Amplifier (BDA), also known as an in-building amplifier, is a device that amplifies is a device that amplifies in-building and external radio signals. When installed for first responder communication, these systems are also referred to as Emergency Responder Radio Coverage Systems or Emergency Radio Repeater Communication Systems (ERRCS).
In the context of public safety, DAS and BDA systems are used to improve communication and signal strength for emergency responders such as police, fire, and ambulance services. Local and state regulations in Arizona and Utah now mandate public safety coverage inside buildings as a prerequisite for certificates of occupancy. The codes are based on Section 403.4.5 of International Building Code, and Section 510 of the International Fire Code (IFC), which require that new and existing buildings be provided with ERRCS in areas of buildings and structures where signal strength would be inadequate in an emergency situation.
Air Comm has been designing radio communication systems since 1973. Our team of signal experts are familiar with state and local regulations, and can perform grid testing to verify existing public safety signal conditions. Based on those results, we can design and install a public safety DAS/BDA to provide coverage and ensure your building meets National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) codes, local standards and operating protocols.
Our NFPA compliant engineers work with industry-standard software to design public safety solutions that will perform in any situation. They can even design systems that combine a public safety ERRCS with your building staff two-way radio system. We know this technology better than anyone, and we'll use that knowledge to make sure that your project is successful.
